Allegany County residents, age 60 and over, can receive a free legal and financial health check-up at the Center for Elder Law and Justice’s Mobile Legal Unit (MLU) hosted by the Allegany County Office for the Aging at the Crossroads Center, 6087 NYS Route 19 N, Belmont, NY 14813, on June 30 at 12:00 p.m. Pre-registration is required.
The Mobile Legal Unit (MLU) is a team of attorneys and paralegals that travel throughout Western New York to provide “done in a day” legal assistance, as well as general information about the Center for Elder Law and Justice, and referral information for applicable non-legal services. The Center for Elder Law and Justice will provide a brief presentation on scam avoidance and be available afterward for individual consultations.
Some examples of matters that the Mobile Legal Unit can assist with include: Debt harassment and/or consumer billing concerns, Obtaining and/or reviewing credit reports, Health Care Proxy/Living Will Statement, Tenants’ rights, New Americans and Immigration, Kinship care, Mortgage and tax foreclosure, Questions regarding open enrollment for Medicaid & Medicare, Reviewing medical bills, and Financial exploitation and elder abuse.
The Mobile Legal Unit uses the Risk Detector and Senior Financial Safety Tool to offer legal and financial health check-ups for anyone over 60 years old.
