Volunteers provide phone calls to an elderly person at a specific time each day. The call assures the client that a friend and/or help is only a phone call away.
Volunteers provide social contact in weekly, one-hour visits to a client’s home.
IRS-trained volunteers provide free assistance to senior citizens with their tax returns. Clinics are set up in towns around the county, or TCE counselors can make home visits if the client is homebound. The program runs February through April
Volunteers who lead exercise classes in various towns around the county.
Volunteers man our booth and provide information at the Allegany County Fair, in July.
Provide substantial assistance, including an arm while walking, and getting in and out of vehicle, plus going into appointments with the client, or shopping with the client.
Go for the client to get groceries, pick up medicines or do the banking. With this service, the OFA has a form that both the volunteer and the client sign for handling the monies involved.
Senior Luncheon Volunteers
Volunteers help set-up, serve, and clear away the meals at one of the nine centers around the county.
Our volunteer handyman program provides free minor home repairs for the elderly. The client provides the material.
Meals on Wheels drivers
Volunteers deliver a nutritious, hot meal to homebound elderly and are welcome contacts. Many of them work as little as one hour a month delivering meals.
Health Insurance counseling
Provide free unbiased assistance on health insurance concerns.
Long Term Care Ombudsman
