Drug
Problem in Allegany County
Most of the drugs in Allegany County come from larger
surrounding areas such as Rochester, Buffalo and New York City.
Many of our dealers also come from these cities to sell in
Allegany County because there is less competition and a higher
profit. Drug trends that appear in the larger cities such as
Rochester usually appear in Allegany County within six months to
a year.
Heroin
Heroin has become a significant problem in our area. Many of the
crimes in Allegany County can be directly or indirectly tied to
the use or sale of Heroin. Heroin is the drug of choice by
street level dealers due to the increasing demand throughout the
Southern Tier region. Heroin will most likely continue to be a
problem in the future unless law enforcement is given the tools
needed to stop its growth.
The Cocaine/Crack Cocaine problem in the region seems to have
leveled off temporarily due to increased presence of Heroin and
the pressure applied by law enforcement agencies and regional
task forces. However, Cocaine/Crack Cocaine will certainly
continue to be a problem in Allegany County.
Marijuana is widely used in the area and remains consistent.
Marijuana use and sales are seen as a less serious crime, but it
still continues to be a lucrative business that law enforcement
takes very seriously. Everyday use of marijuana also serves as a
gateway drug to individuals who contribute to the demand of
other more serious drugs.
rescription
narcotics account for several cases adopted by Task Force
investigators in Allegany County each year. Investigators
maintain that the most popular narcotic prescription drugs used
or sold are Oxycontin, Hydrocodone, Tylenol w/ Codeine, Fentanyl,
and Vicodin which are the most widely prescribed pain killers.
With the rise of Heroin, Suboxone, a synthetic narcotic used in
the treatment of heroin addiction, has also surfaced as the
prescription drug of choice for many individuals.

As long as there are users of drugs, there will be manufacturers
and distributors of drugs infiltrating your neighborhoods and
affecting your quality of life and personal safety. In areas
with the manufacture, distribution, and use of illegal drugs,
there is ALWAYS an increase in violent crime including
homicides, assaults, robberies, larcenies, and burglaries.
The only way to make neighborhoods safe is to remove drugs -
PERMANENTLY.
