Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 4:00 pm.

Approval of Minutes
The minutes of July 22, 2009 were approved with motions from Legislators Dibble and Burdick, as well as the amendment to the June 22, 2009 meeting.  Motions carried.

Office for the Aging
This office requested permission to fill the position of Luncheon Center Manager for the Alfred Site to replace someone who has resigned.   Legislator Dibble made the motion to approve, with Legislator Burdick seconding.  Motion carried with referral to Ways and Means.

The Senior Picnic was a success and the department’s fair booth got “Best of Show”.

Social Services
The Department’s monthly report was distributed showing a slight increase in Temporary Assistance Cases.

Commissioner Schmelzer requested permission to hire a Community Service Aide.  This is a temporary position, to assist with the HEAP Program, and is hired from the Public assistance caseload.  Legislators Dibble and Reynolds moved on the request.  Motions carried.  Ways and Means

The Department requested an increase in expenditure and revenue accounts for “Back-to-School” costs, issued by the NYS Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance totaling $380,000.00.  Legislator Dibble moved on the request, with Legislator Burdick seconding.  Motions carried.  Ways and Means

 Social Services will be receiving money for wage subsidy programs with ACCORD.

Health Department
The Department requests permission to accept funding in the amount of $22,464 from the Susan G. Komen Foundation.  This money will be used to provide breast cancer awareness education and support to Allegany and Cattaraugus County area residents who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.   Legislator Reynolds moved the request, with Legislator Burdick seconding.  Motions carried.  Ways and Means

Other Business
A resolution is requested to support Schoharie County’s resolution or a similar resolution entitled, “Requesting New York State to Take Back Local Share of Medicaid as a Component of True Medicaid Reform”.  The request was approved with a motion from Legislator Dibble and a second from Legislator Reynolds.

There being no further business to come before this committee, the meeting was adjourned at 4:25 pm.
