Emergency Contraception / Plan B

Emergency contraception (EC) includes any method that acts after intercourse to prevent pregnancy. Through The Allegany County Department of Health the Plan B pill is available. It is NOT an abortion pill and does NOT disturb an implanted pregnancy. It may prevent a fertilized egg from implanting in the uterus. Males and females over the age of 14 can go to a Pharmacy without a prescription to obtain Plan B, however there is a fee of approximately $65 per pill. Through our Family Planning clinics individuals without insurance (or those who wish not to disclose their insurance) will be placed on a sliding fee scale with a maximum fee of $6 (most may qualify to receive EC for free).

The Family Planning Clinics also offer reliable birth control methods for your contraceptive use and reproductive health. If you currently have or qualify for the Family Planning Benefit Program (Medicaid that covers your reproductive health) it allows you to obtain Plan B from a pharmacy up to 6 times a year for no charge without a prescription.
