General Planning Services are being provided by
Allegany Environment and Planning Services, Inc.(AEP Services, Inc.). Standard services that can be handled through AEP
Services on behalf of Allegany County include:
- Flood Plain questions
- GIS & Pictometry questions
- Local zoning and planning questions
- Project development and grant availability

- Trail & Open Space Issues
- Environmental compliance questions
Allegany Environment & Planning Services,
Inc. efforts included the following activities:
Studies/Surveys/Projects:
The following are some of the projects that we
were involved with during 2001:
- In conjunction with the Development Office a
conference center study was released in early 2001;
- A draft of an Economic Development Plan was
released for review by the Committee of 44;
- An I-86 Corridor Study was underway through
Southern Tier West;
- An Agricultural Planning Initiative was
undertaken with Cornell Cooperative Extension;
- A feasibility study of alternative routing for
an improved access route off of I-86 to Alfred and Wellsville;
- An update of business listing database was
undertaken;
- Available commercial sites listing were
provided to the Development Office;
- Assistance was provided for the Empire Zone
Expansion effort utilizing GPS & GIS;
- Update of the Comprehensive HUD plan;
- Sewer and Water Infrastructure needs were
assessed on a preliminary basis;
- County office space needs are being assessed
by an outside consultant with input by Planning Services
Census 2000
Data that the federal government has released is
now available either on the county web site [go to Demographics above]
or in paper format at the Development Office;
Community Assistance
Community Assistance was provided to the
communities of Alfred, Allen, Almond, Angelica, Belmont, Belfast, Birdsall,
Burns, Canaseraga, Granger, Grove and Hume with Planning issues during 2001.
These services are on a request basis.
GIS:
- Continue to coordinate the GIS Task Force
within the county;
- Many layers of data have been updated,
re-projected and developed and are to be made available to the county personnel
via a GIS server. The county now has most infrastructure and facilities mapped
within the county;
General
Items:
Requests for information on Flood Plains and
designations; providing maps for various uses including grant applications;
reviewing grant applications and reviewing proposed local laws as requested,
providing training on flood plain insurance programs; Grants information was
collected, collated and distributed for use by various departments.
