Transportation Assistance

Transportation assistance available through the Department of Social Services falls into two basic categories: employment related assistance and medical related assistance.  We can provide help to people who receive TANF, Safety Net, CAP, or Medicaid. Click here for more information on medical transportation.

Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP)

Many low-income people have difficulty paying their heating bills during the winter months.  The Department of Social Services can help people with their fuel bills.  Eligibility is based on income.  Elderly residents can apply through the Allegany County Office for the Aging.  Others can apply through Accord Corporation.  This program operates only seasonally, generally from late fall till spring.

Case Management Services

Staff from the Department’s Temporary Assistance Unit can help people who receive TANF, Safety Net, Food Stamps, or Medicaid to solve problems, such as child care, housing, and budgeting assistance.  In most cases, this assistance is provided through referrals to specialized services.
